Aaron Pacheco

Computer Information Systems Student & Software Developer

Building web applications, APIs, and cloud infrastructure, working with AI tools along the way, while finishing a CIS degree at the University of Houston.

About

I'm a Computer Information Systems student at the University of Houston (Cullen College of Engineering), expected to graduate in Spring 2027. I began my academic path at San Jacinto College, earning an Associate of General Studies with a 3.92 GPA before transferring to UH.

My coursework and independent projects focus on full-stack web development, API integration, and cloud infrastructure, supported by certifications from IBM, AWS, Google, and NVIDIA spanning software development, DevOps, cloud architecture, and AI. I'm equally comfortable writing application code and working with hardware, having built several Arduino-based projects that combine embedded programming with software logic.

Outside the classroom, I've volunteered with several Houston-area organizations, developing leadership, communication, and organizational skills I apply to collaborative technical work.

Outside of coursework and projects, I follow Formula 1, stay active at the gym, work on vehicles and projects around the house, and spend time at the beach.

Projects

A selection of software and hardware projects built through coursework and independent practice.

RFID Lockbox

Built a physical lockbox that unlocks only when scanned with an authorized RFID tag. The Arduino reads each tag's ID, checks it against a stored allow-list, and drives a servo motor to control the locking mechanism. Tags can be added or revoked without changing the hardware.

  • Arduino
  • RFID
  • Servo Motor

Arduino Remote-Controlled Car

Built a remote-controlled car from individual components, wiring motors, a wireless receiver, and sensors to an Arduino microcontroller. Added obstacle detection so the car responds to its surroundings instead of relying on open-loop driving commands alone.

  • Arduino
  • Wireless Control
  • Sensors

Interactive Arduino Mural

Designed and built a physical mural that reacts to movement and sound using Arduino-driven sensors and LEDs. The core challenge was mapping real-world sensor input to responsive, programmed visual output in real time.

  • Arduino
  • Sensors
  • LED Control

Weather App

Built a weather application that displays live conditions based on the user's location. Routed API requests through a proxy server to keep credentials off the client, with an interface designed to stay clear and readable across screen sizes.

  • JavaScript
  • Geolocation API
  • Proxy Server

Currency Converter

Built a currency converter that pulls live exchange rates and updates conversions dynamically as users change currencies or amounts, handling API response parsing and unsupported currency pairs.

  • JavaScript
  • ExchangeRate-API

Personal Portfolio Website

Designed and built this site to present my background, coursework, and projects to a technical audience, iterating on layout, content structure, and responsiveness as my skills and project list have grown.

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript

Additional Projects

Calculator

A calculator supporting standard arithmetic plus scientific functions (square root, logarithms, trigonometry, and factorials) along with basic memory operations.

Note-Taking App

A lightweight note-taking tool with create and delete functionality, using the browser's localStorage for persistent, client-side data storage.

Drawing App

A browser-based drawing tool built on HTML5 Canvas, with adjustable brush size and opacity, a color picker, an eraser, undo support, and the ability to save finished drawings.

JavaScript & Python Games

A collection of classic games, including Snake, Tic Tac Toe, 2048, Space Invaders, and a memory-matching game, built to practice programming logic, algorithms, and user interaction.

Contact

I'm looking for full-time and internship opportunities in software development, information systems, and related technology roles.
